Jackson Pathfinders Meeting Minutes

Municipal Building February 18, 2016

Meeting called to order at 7:30pm by Ken Beyer, Chairman.

Attendance: Gayle Baum, Mike Baum, Dan Green, Shari Kondrup, Zhao, Bill Dudley, Laura Stone, Paul Lippert, Ken Beyer, Tom Stevens, Pat Stevens

The minutes of the January meeting were approved with changes.

Treasurer's report: Karen Walzer: The budget is $500.00. The banner came in. However the logo was blurry so it was returned to the vendor.

Corresponding Secretary / Membership: Dan Green: Dan sent out a reminder notice for the monthly meeting.

Website & Facebook: Ken Beyer and Barbara Usack: Ken Beyer, the Pathfinders webmaster, is continuing the ongoing work of upgrading the website. Barbara Usack reported the Facebook page has 117 likes. The minutes are up to date on the website.

Forest Resource Education Center (FREC): Rick Dutko: The Backyard Forestry program continues on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm, registration is through the NJ Forestry Assoc. The March program will be on bluebirds and given by Laura Stone. In addition, there are Saturday programs on the second Saturday of the month.

Bluebird Report: Laura Stone: Laura will be doing a bluebird talk for the March Backyard Forestry meeting at the FREC. It is on March tenth at 7pm.

Grants: Karen Walzer, and Tom Stevens: Karen brought the Environmental Commission (EC) grant application to the meeting. The grant is for $1500.00 and must be submitted by the EC. Karen contacted the EC and proposed working together with the Pathfinders. Karen and Tom agreed to work on a draft proposal to have ready for the March 15 EC meeting for approval.

Bunker Hill Bogs: The sign committee reported they felt coloring the trails would be clearer and require fewer signs. Two dead end trails were removed from the map. It was proposed that a kiosk at the T-intersection would be the most useful signage. They suggested 11x7 signs on the Butterfly Road entrances. It was suggested for laminated maps to be made and posted at the entrances. The estimated number of sign needed is 12. More discussion is needed.

NJCF Silver Stream Trail: Dan Green wrote to Bill Scullion about mapping the trail but has not received a reply. Ken removed the garbage bag and emptied 1/2 of the recycling can.

Steve Kitay Living Trail: Dan reached out to the Kitay family they have not walked the trail since the dedication. They are interested in a guided tour but no date has been set. .

Monthly Hikes: A schedule has been drawn up for monthly hikes. They will take place on the first weekend after our monthly meeting. They will be on alternating Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a registration required for each hike and they will be listed on the website. The first hike will be on 2/20/16 at 10am at the Vista Center property, it will be led by Tom Stevens. The March hike will be on 3/20 to the Alpaca farm led by Ken Beyer. Heavy rain or snow cancels the hike.
