Jackson Pathfinders Meeting Minutes

Municipal Building February 19, 2015

Meeting called to order at 7:30pm by Ken Beyer - Chairman.

Attendance: Ken Beyer, Gayle Baum, Mike Baum, Dan Green, Karen Walzer, Shari Kondrup, Bill Dudley, Laura Stone, Rick Dutko, Pat Stevens and Tom Stevens

The minutes of the January meeting were approved.

Treasurer's report: Karen Walzer: Karen has not heard anything about our budget request. She is going to inquire if we can spend a portion of the proposed budget before the official approval.

Corresponding Secretary / Membership: Dan Green: Dan sent out a reminder notice for the monthly meeting. He also sent a reminder and cancellation notice for the Full Moon Hike.

Website & Facebook: Ken Beyer and Barbara Usack: Ken Beyer, the Pathfinders webmaster, is continuing the work of upgrading the website. Barbara Usack reported that we have 80 likes on Face book. She has been adding upcoming activity information.

 Forest Resource Education Center (FREC): Rick Dutko: There will be a winter Full Moon Hike on 3/6/15. The Pathfinders will be providing refreshments. The Backyard Forestry program continues on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm, registration is through the NJ Forestry Assoc. The FREC will be starting Saturday programs on the second Saturday of the month in April. They will be having family programs on Thursday mornings in July and August. Four of the eight trails at the center have been reblazed. The AARP walking club is going for a hike on 2/24 at 9:30am.

Grants: Karen Walzer, Tony Santa Maria, and Tom Stevens: No report

Bunker Hill Bogs: The entire trail is passable all the way to the dam. The trail will need to be marked. Karen Walzer reported that a portion of the trail still needs cleaning. A Spring clean-up day was discussed but no date was set.

NJCF Silver Stream Trail: Laura Stone and Ken Beyer have walked the trail and stated the chicken wire is holding up well. Dan suggested possibly trying to remount a railing on the bridge. Tom Stevens said the railing has been replaced three times already.

Steve Kitay Living Trail: The trail has multiple color markers which may be confusing, it needs to be remarked in the spring.

New Business: Bill Dudley donated roofing nails to attach trail markers. Activities for National trails Day for 6/6/15 have been suggested. Tom Stevens suggested possibly having people at multiple trail locations to conduct hikes or trail cleanups. Ken Beyer suggested that we should have a table at Jackson Day, Fall Forestry Day and the Outdoor Expo this year.

Election of Leadership: All candidates were running unopposed, a single vote was cast by the recording secretary. The officers are:

Chairman- Ken Beyer, Vice -Chairman- Tom Stevens, Treasurer- Karen Walzer, Corresponding Secretary- Dan Green, Recording Secretary- Pat Stevens.
